The brief called for an artist book that explored the themes of being ‘here’, Distinction explores the idea of not being here and instead being ‘there’. It was a project I had to fully immerse myself in to be able to replicate my experience, using photos, videos, internet lore, movies and more for research and inspiration.
Art direction played a crucial role in creating a disturbing irreality where time plays by its own rules and memories fade — where a warm hug feels strangely malignant. The book was bound with over a dozen safety pins, further communicating how dissociation can often be a futile coping mechanism.
